Akaroa Head lighthouse was once located on the headland of Akaroa Heads. In 1977 the lighthouse was replaced by a 3 metre fibreglass tower with an automated light. On the 2nd of August in 1980, Akaroa Head Lighthouse was moved to its current location at Cemetery Point by the Akaroa Lighthouse Preservation Society.
Akaroa Head lighthouse has been inactive since 1977 but is sometimes lit on holidays and special occasions.
