NAVY DAY IS CELEBRATED IN RUSSIA

Russian military sailors celebrate their professional holiday today, July 26. By tradition, the celebrations are organized on the last Sunday of July, the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper writes.
Festive events are held at all naval bases, fleets and flotillas, including St. Petersburg, Sevastopol, Kronstadt, Kaliningrad, Severomorsk, Baltiysk and many others. For the first time Vladivostok joined the holiday.

The key tradition of the Navy Day is the ceremony of raising the St. Andrew’s flag. Ship parades are also customary: the best warships pass along the central embankments. The holiday is accompanied by demonstration performances and military sports competitions. They involve marines, rescuers, underwater special forces soldiers and representatives of other naval professions.

The main naval parade is to take place in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt. Due to the coronavirus, only veterans of the fleet, military personnel and their family members are invited to Senate Square and the South Wall in Kronstadt. The number of viewers will several times fewer than usual.
