The Royal Navy Submarine Museum originally shared: HMS Thunderbolt was sunk by Italian corvette Cicogna off Sicily on 14 March 1943. The submarine had previously sunk on 1 June 1939 during trials before being repaired and renamed from HMS Thetis to HMS Thunderbolt.
